Do it yourself Credit Repair

By Rob Kosberg

You found yourself in a very bad financial situation. You may feel emotional, hopeless, guilty or all of them. You are afraid of hitting rock bottom. Before that happens, you need to take the necessary steps to get your financial life in order. You need to look long and hard at your credit use and spending habits. It doesn't mean a "debt consolidation," program or a home equity loan .The word is PLAN.

You will start by collecting all your credit reports, bill payment statements, and credit card statements, mortgage and insurance records. Locate debt worksheets on the internet to help you work. All of these steps will be taking place at the same time.

Be meticulous about ensuring that your credit reports (there are 3 major credit reporting agencies) are accurate and truly reflect your credit status. To complete this project may take some written communications with one or all of the credit reporting agencies. Stay with the process.

Record in black and white all of your financial obligations. This will affect the money management part of the plan. Do list all credit cards in order of highest to lowest interest rates. Also include the monthly minimum payment required for each card.

Figure out your disposable income. This is the amount of your salary that goes for necessities such as mortgage, car loans, credit card payments, utilities, other loan payments. When you subtract this amount from your salary, you will have your discretionary income. This is the income you can devote to reducing debt.

Decide which credit cards, and loans that you will pay down in order. For the first one you decide to pay down, pay as much more than minimum as you can. Pay the minimum on the others. When the first is paid off, start applying that same amount to the next debt in line. It won't be a fast process.

There will be some personal discomfort as you tackle this project. There will need to be changes in your lifestyle. You will need to cease purchasing that is not essential. You will need to stop charging, pay bills on time, minimize travel and entertainment, dine more at home and perhaps give up other indulgences.

The bottom line of the situation is that you are responsible for creating it. There is no credit angel. You need to fix it and use smart money management techniques to maintain your repairs.

Can A Car Be Secure?

By Susan Tanner

With the economy in its current weak state, security becomes a concern for many Americans. For example, job security reigns as one of the top concerns in a day such as this. But many overlook the importance of car insurance: what everyone needs to ensure secure transportation.

With a plethora of auto insurance companies all offering competitive rates, you may ask which one best suits your needs and your budget? Getting quotes from several different companies is a smart start. Then you can compare the rates and decide on the ideal plan for your vehicle.

Do not be easily moved to purchase insurance by signing with the company that has the lowest premium. You must consider a few other factors before making your decision. Think about how many drivers are going to be legally driving your car and their ages. Does the car have any safety features that will discount the premium? Will the insurance cover the cost of the loan for the car if it is totaled? Do you want full coverage or only partial liabilities? You also need to know the your specific stateas insurance regulations concerning automobile insurance.

Your standard rate may vary from the different insurance companies if you are the sole driver of your vehicle. However, if you add another driver, especially if he/she is underage, you will see that the premiums will vary sometimes largely from company to company. The more quotes the better though, as it is important that all drivers are insured.

Vehicles with multiple air bags, anti-theft devices, and electronic stability systems are usually able to be insured at a discounted rate. The cars of today are made standard with seat belts. Nevertheless, check with your insurance company to see if they will offer a discount because your car is equipped with them. Insurance companies usually offer a discount with the standard and optional features of a modern car although it varies.

If the car is one that is being bought by a loan, rather than a car that is leased, special attention needs to be focused on the area of accidents. In the event of the car being totalled in an accident, the insurance company needs to cover the remaining amount of the loan. Not all companies will do this, so multiple quote are imperative.

As an insurance customer, be mindful of the available coverages and limits of liability. Make sure that the amount you will pay in the case of an accident is one that you can afford. Additionally, your state may require a certain liability minimum for the customer. Your insurance company may not necessarily know your specific stateas regulations.

In summation, you must be sure to shop multiple insurance companies and their quotes before you make your decision. In the end, you will be rewarded when you get the best value for your money. Look over what is included in each quote thoroughly. But again, donat make any rash decisions before you compare quotes. Opting to not be insured is not wise when there are so many companies that have great offers. Your car insurance is one security that you can be sure to count on in an unsure economy.

Points To Remember While Filing Bankruptcy Online

By John Steed

When an individual or institution becomes unable or incapacitated to pay its debtors, it prompts the debtor to file for bankruptcy. The norm is to use the services of a seasoned advocate to aide in the legal implications it attracts. Luckily, online insolvency has made it possible for debtors who may want to do so without the help of a legal officer. This is because of the technicalities involved and paperwork required that most people are unfamiliar with and hence the job would suit a legislator who understands the legalities, jargon and the processes taken.

Some of the benefits that come with filing bankruptcy on-line are that; you always get the most experienced legal representatives to carry out the task, and is cost effective. Most of the processes involved are cleared outlined to the debtor. On-line filing makes it easy for you to be able to give out your needs and list your assets to make a legal decision. You can also directly get instant support from legal officers on-line and inquire anything that might not be clear to you, including clarifications on any clause of the bankruptcy act.

Despite most individuals preferring taking time to visit a legal officer and incurring some additional costs and time, most of them tend to make the issue look complicated and serious with the aim of cashing in on legal fee. Many bankrupt issues requires a professional who understands things like which documents need signatures, what to file as asset and other issues that may be specific to a particular country or organizations.

A face-to-face meeting will be arranged that allows the advocacy to get to know the debtor and personally get to understand their predicament. The advocacy makes the request for a meeting, in view of the fact that they could be guilty of misrepresentation once the matter hits court. The process is almost similar to applying for a loan since the debtor is required to give so much personal information, a photo notwithstanding. Most advocacies would rather do a background check; sift through your organization or personal history using the web and articles associated with your financial dealings. The debtor can then choose whether to appear in court or not.

In as much as online filing is best left for legal officers to do, some sites usually offer paralegal assistance directly to the debtors, though this is only a trend that has started recently, what with the few cases of negligence that dog this process.

Most web sites promote their services to get past legal representatives and give the clients an avenue to fill in the form through the internet or print out the form and file for bankruptcy all through to court. Some courts may fail to approve to this means and may insist on the legal proceeding handled by a legal officer. However, it is easier for a client to choose a competent advocate as most of them have necessary details available in their sites; hence easier for the client to choose the most appropriate one. This also save legal fees, time and saves an individual or organization the wrath of the public due to bankrupt status.

Finding A Cheaper Car Hire For Australia Vacations

By Chris Channing

Australia can take pride in knowing it has one of the most flourishing tourist economies in the surrounding areas. Where there is an abundance of tourism, there is also a myriad of tourist services to choose from. One industry in particular, the car rental industry, is particularly easy to find savings in.

When opting for a cheaper car hire service, tourists can always resort to contacting a travel agent for more information. In fact, obtaining a travel agent is important for those who haven't seen Australia yet or those that are new to travel in general. This guarantees that a good time will be had by all- even despite being lost in a new continent.

Much like an agent would do, some Internet services are able to poll different car hire services in Australia and find the cheapest rate. The difference in this scenario is that the agent route is costly- and most Internet services will do it for free. Ironically, travelers can get leads on great Internet services by asking their travel agent for more information.

Unfortunately, most of the savings found in car rental discounts are going to be obtained simply by being a certain age or having a certain amount of credit. Older travelers will naturally get a discount, while younger travelers will likely pay extra fees for reasons that are hard to change, if possible at all. Always read the fine print before signing for a rental car, that is where such fees will be hiding.

Getting a cheaper car rental service can also be achieved by following special rules that many Australia car rental services will put into place. An example would be the gas fill up rule- which simply requires rental cars to have a full tank of gas upon their return or clients will suffer an extra fee to their bank or credit account. Other technicalities such as this are indeed present, so pay attention to detail on rules or regulations.

The average consumer will probably instantaneously go for a car rental service easily obtained at an airport. But it is stressed that some research be done, and the above tips followed, so that the savings in the car rental can be put towards extra entertainment for a vacation. If you're having a tough time finding solutions, also remember travel agents can be found that will help out in the process.

Closing Comments

It's nice to be able to save money on things we buy on a day to day basis- but also when we want to go have fun in exotic locations. From this point forward, try going online to find inexpensive travel options or talking to a travel agent for more information on the subject.

Credit Cards Dealing With Bankruptcy

By John Steed

At the time when a person or organization is incapable or debilitated to reimburse his debtors, it forces the person owed to file for bankruptcy. The idea is to engage the services of a lawyer to facilitate the legitimate consequences that it attracts. However, online bankruptcy has enabled debtors to proceed without the assistance of an advocate. This is attributed by the mechanism involved and the manual work required that a lot of individuals are not familiar to as the work is done best by a legal representative who understands it best.

The usual assumption by those who declare insolvency is that they will not be allowed the use of their credit cards, albeit access to credit facilities. Luckily, the declaration allows the credit history of the client not to be challenged in court, whether negative or otherwise. But this does not mean that the case of the former means that your dirty records are erased. Far from it, the court acknowledges that by filing, you do so at your own merit.

One on one engagement is advised as it allows the legal representative to be acquainted with the debtor and in person appreciate their quandary. The lawyer proposes for to avoid being accused of parody in the instance that the case is in court. The proceeding resembles those of loan application as the person owed is obligated to give his personal information and a photo is essential. Lawyers prefer to have a check on his background, organization check or web search on ones persona history.

They may move to know whether you intend to streamline your operations and how much you need to recollect or cut back, for instance if in the case of a company, the incompetent employees are relieved from work and non-performing outlets closed. These moves make the financial institutions comfortable as they know you intend to make payment.

If proceedings on the same are taken against you, you are thinking of making yourself incapable of paying your debts, you should seek your own legal or financial advice from a debt advice centre, Citizen Advice Bureau, a solicitor, a qualified accountant, an authorized insolvency practitioner or a reputable financial adviser.

A court can reject this and usually insists on the online proceeding to be handled by a lawyer. This ease the process of a debtor picking a lawyer as they usually lists their achievements on the internet hence the debtor is able to know their cost, timing and the attention that insolvent brings.

New Year, new credit card

By James Noon

The impact of the infamous 'Credit Crunch' of 2008 still has a grip on the UK economy as we head into 2009. The financial forecast is peppered with warnings of further downturns and of hard times ahead, particularly for customers with outstanding debts on credit cards. But a New Year can give you an opportunity to hunt down a bargain that may help you weather the financial storm a little easier and guide you into smoother monetary waters.

Tempting 0% offers on credit cards have been noticeable by their absence this year as credit card companies tighten their belts in anticipation of another lean year. But they are out there, with some banks even joining in the frenzy to tempt wary high street customers into their branches with 'Sales' on financial services, including balance transfer credit cards. The smart consumer can take advantage of this desire to please by the credit card companies and snap up a bargain on balance transfers. Many credit card companies are now reducing their exposure in the marketplace by only accepting customers with very good credit histories. Any small blip on your record could stop your chances of taking advantage of the few 0% offers that are available, so a worthy New Years resolution might be to check your credit history records. If there are any discrepancies on your record (even something as insignificant as an incorrect postcode) they could affect your ability to gain credit. By checking that all your details are correct and up to date, you have a far better chance of taking advantage of the offers that are available.

There are a few things to take into consideration when looking at balance transfer cards. Firstly, be aware that you will be required to pay a transfer fee to move an outstanding debt from one card to another. This is normally around 3% of the total transfer, but some credit card companies have a minimum fee, regardless of the amount transferred. You need to include this figure in your initial calculations.

Secondly, not all 0% balance transfer credit cards are interest free for purchases as well. This backs up the golden rule of credit card transfers " never use the card for purchases as well as transfers. The amount you pay off each month on the new card will go to pay off the most recent transactions, rather than the initial balance transfer. So if you use the card for purchases as well you could find yourself running out of time to take advantage of the 0% offer on the initial transfer. It also means that you could end up paying interest on your transfer " something you wanted to avoid doing in the first place.

Some cards do offer dual functions " 0% on balance transfers and 0% (usually for a much shorter period of time) on purchases. However, once the purchases deal runs its course, you may discover that the payments you make go to pay off the balance transfer, rather than the interest on outstanding purchases. This is known as 'negative payment hierarchy', with payments being used to clear the balances attracting the lowest interest rate first (the remaining time on your 0% balance transfer) and not your recent purchases. This could result in customers paying the full interest charge on purchases (usually around 18% but some can be much higher). It's the polar opposite of the previous conundrum, but still reinforces the adage " keep your balance transfers and your purchases on separate cards.

Finally, before you fill in that tempting application form, do your sums first. Work out exactly how much you are going to be paying each month to clear the initial transfer amount without paying interest. Remember that these cards also incur other costs including balance transfer fees, possible late payment charges and insurance (which is often mandatory). By knowing your figures before you choose the right card you will be taking a much firmer control of your finances right from the start. This means you have a far better chance of surviving the current economic crisis and coming out the other side in a much stronger position financially.

How does Divorce Affect Credit

By Rob Kosberg

Your marriage is about to dissolve in the divorce court. This is a tremendously emotional time in the lives of both partners. Both will need to learn about how financial issues affect each partner. You may want legal advice to help you with these issues.

Finances should be worked out, if at all possible, before the divorce is completed. Credit reports for each partner need to be secured, examined and fixed so that both reports are accurate. When you examine your finances you will e able to see what credit issues need to be decided.

There are issues if you are responsible together for a mortgage. Home issues need to be carefully managed particularly if there is alimony and child support involved. You may decide to sell the home or to let one partner buy it. That would take care of that joint loan.

You will need to also arrange to have other debts such as cars, credit cards, utilities, etc. in one name only. These are decisions that will need to be made by both of you and are not always easy.

Please know that credit cards should be only in one name. If joint credit card debt is not changed to one responsible party before the divorce, it can occur that credit card companies will go to the party not responsible (according to the decree) for payment. The unpaid debit could go to "collection" and you could start getting those embarrassing phone calls from collectors regarding the payments for the ex-spouse. Poor credit of one affects credit of the other. Take care of this before the divorce.

Figure out all cash assets and how these will be divided. Do the split, close any joint checking and savings accounts and open accounts in individual names. No one can get to the other's money.

During this process, pay all debts even if you have to sell some things to do so. This way, you are each then responsible for your own individual debts. You want to have your own financial base when you leave the marriage.

Remember that even though the divorce decree spells out the person responsible for debts, this will not negate any joint financial responsibilities which can come back to haunt you if not settled prior to the final decree. Be proactive during the divorce process and get your financial status in order.

A foreclosure costs a lot of money and time delays

By Rem

Many hear about the phrase "real estate short sale" and do not fully grasp what it means. If you read the newspapers, or turn on the TV and the odds are high that you will come across stories about declining real estate market conditions and the increasing willingness of banks and other financial institutions to consider real estate short sales as an alternative to foreclosure.

The real estate crisis throughout the country has made the prices decrease and the sell time increase. It is not unfair to label the current real estate market one that is undergoing a market meltdown in many cases, and Detroit is one of those. Declining real estate markets are the primary reason for the rise in short sale real estate opportunities.

A real estate short sale happens when a bank lets a property be sold for less than the amount owed on it. In order for this to occur, two conditions must be met. Firstly: Market values are such that the property's sale price cannot cover the outstanding mortgage balance(s). An inability to make additional payments on the property is the second requirement.

As an example, suppose a property was purchased five years ago for 217,000 dollars with an adjustable rate mortgage. The owners decided two years later that they needed a second mortgage of 10,000 dollars, bringing their total to 227,000 dollars. Home owners typically have made only a negligible dent in the amount of money that has gone towards paying off their debt in five years. The house might also be in a part of the country where the market values have fallen to a low of 215,000 dollars and their interest rates have gone up from around seven percent to up around eleven percent. Add in the additional problem of one of the owners having lost their job, and you end up with a very likely real estate short sale scenario.

For a bank, a foreclosure can mean a lot of time and money spent that a short sale would not. This is because the banks believe it is better to accept a definite amount of money now than to wait on an unknown amount of money that may materialize in the future. The process can occasionally become complicated, particularly if the owners and the lenders reach an stalemate when it comes to agreeing to terms, but overall, that is how a real estate short sale works.

A real estate short sale is an unpleasant experience for an owner, but it is not the worst thing in the world. If nothing else, it certainly beats being forced to accept a foreclosure on your credit report. On the other hand, a truly savvy investor can take advantage of these short sales for excellent buying opportunities.

Selling Memphis Home

By W. Kim

Whether you are trying to sell a home in Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Memphis or Louisville there are certain things which can prevent a sale from happening. If you can identify the problems then you will that selling your Louisville home for example will become much simpler. Below we take a look at some of the mistakes that people may well make when selling their homes and which can prevent them getting an offer quickly on it.

Mistake 1 - A house that smells bad is going to put off any potential buyer. If you own pets or smoke the odors produced by these need to be removed as soon as you possibly can. Don't just think spraying the room just before a viewing with air freshener is going to disguise them. In fact your furniture and furnishings will be full of these odors, so you need to arrange to get them cleaned correctly prior to the viewings commencing.

Mistake 2 - If when potential buyers do come round to your home don't be too pushy when it comes to trying to sell the property too them, This is something that will immediately turn them away, instead allow them to wander around. This way they can get a far better feeling of whether the property is right for them and if they can see themselves living in it after you have gone.

Mistake 3 - If you do own pets it is best if you actually get them out of the way whilst any viewings are taking place especially if you have a dog. Ideally arrange for them to be looked after someone else whilst the viewings are taking place or place them in their dog crates until after the viewings are complete. Although you may be an animal lover the person who has come to view your home may not.

Mistake 4 - When it comes to selling your Louisville home make sure that all minor repairs have been completed beforehand. So if you find taps are dripping or the gutters are full get these sorted well before the viewings are due to begin. By getting these out of the way it will give any potential buyer one less thing for them to worry about.

Credit After Bankruptcy

By Matt Douglas

If you have filed bankruptcy you should expect your credit will be severely damaged. However there is hope, you can take action to remove your bad credit and by building some positive credit you can have a high score.

Contrary to popular belief this mark can be removed from your report and without waiting 10 years. To remove this mark we suggest:

1. Dispute the mark with each bureau.

You can do this yourself or by hiring a service, a dispute letter must be sent to each bureau disputing the accuracy of the mark. Upon receipt the bureaus will investigate, however because bankruptcies are recorded in public records which the bureaus will not check during an investigation, the mark will not be verified.

The Fair Credit Reporting Act says that any mark that can not be verified by the bureau must be removed from your report. Additionally this mark says that you the consumer can dispute any item on your report that you do not feel is accurate. Often people are concerned with the legality of credit repair, and you should know you will never be fined, prosecuted, arrested, or face any legal action for disputing an item.

Before you dispute the bankruptcy it is a good idea to make sure that all other negative marks read "included in bankruptcy." The reason is once the initial bankruptcy mark is removed you will dispute all the other negative items because you do not have a bankruptcy mark on your report. There are rumors that it is much easier to remove this mark after two years.

2. When your bankruptcy mark is erased, you can start to dispute each negative account.

You can dispute it on the basis that it says "included in bankruptcy", but you do not have a bankruptcy on your report. Thus each negative mark should be erased once investigated. Doing this will give you a clean slate on your report.

3. Open a new revolving line of credit such as a credit card. This will help you build some positive credit on your report.

When you make your on time monthly payments you will create a positive payment history on your report. Additionally this will help your utilization ratio, this is how the bureaus decide if you are in over you head financially. It is measured by the amount of available credit you have versus how much debt you have. These are the two biggest factors when your score is calculated.

It may not be the most ethical move to dispute a mark you know is correct. However how ethical is it for a lender to charge you 30% interest rate, especially if you have kept you account in good standing for years. Unfortunately all it takes is one missed payment and you can face fees and interest rates, no matter how long you have been a model customer.

In sum a positive payment history, report clear of derogatory items, and a good ratio of available credit to debt is the recipe for a 700 plus score. This will improve your quality of life by; saving you money on large deposits, high interest rates, and the embarrassment of a denial.

Does Consolidation Loan Helpful?

By Mike Carbeck

Misusing credit cards is the main reason people run into uncontrollable spending and find themselves facing large payments combined with interest and penalties. Because it is so easy to use a credit card many people do not realize that every little penny adds up.

It is very easy to pull out a credit card and spend, spend, spend. For people who have a credit card with no preset spending limit, there is no amount of money limiting to what they can charge up on their credit cards. With no limit set, people spend money dangerously and do this without taking the time to think about the bigger picture, what happens down the road can be an ugly outcome.

Not only do you have to pay the monthly minimum, you are also charged with what can be a very high interest rate. If you find yourself in the horrible situation of out-of-control credit debt, there are several agencies that can help you out. These agencies will assist you in getting your spending under control and may even help you get a consolidation loan to pay off business or personal debts.

You apply for a consolidation loan in the same way as you do for credit cards, however this is where the similarities end. These loans will roll all of your credit card debt into one lump loan and will eliminate the individual interest rates that some credit card companies charge.

A consolidation loan allows you to make one lump sum payment per month, to one company. You take control over your credit card debt, lower your interest payments per month and can possibly preserve your credit rating. A consolidation loan can take the place of making many payments, to many companies, and by only paying the minimum monthly payment on your credit cards, you will continue being eaten alive by debt. These loans are a step in the right direction for some people.

It does not matter if you have perfect credit, the credit agency you choose can put you in touch with lenders who will still enable you to secure a loan. Your agency will negotiate with your creditors to get lower interest rates and may even be able to get them to waive possible penalties, thus saving you even more money.

There are two types of consolidation loans for consumers in trouble, one is a secured and the other is an unsecured loan. A secured loan requires collateral be guaranteed before this loan is approved. An unsecured loan requires no collateral before it can be approved.

These are just two of the many options available to you when facing mounting credit card debt and the results of reckless spending. The end result is that as a credit card holder it is up to you to make sound financial decisions, and if you find yourself knee deep in debt there are alternatives out there to help you get rid of the debt. This will allow you to rebuild your good credit and get out of the bottomless pit of credit card debt.
